Building what comes after platforms

Platform businesses solved a real problem: coordinating supply and demand at scale. Uber connected riders with drivers. Airbnb connected travelers with hosts. For this coordination service, they charged 15–30% of every transaction. That was a fair price for a real service.

AI changes this equation. Matching, pricing, scheduling, logistics, quality assessment — everything a platform does can now be performed by AI agents at near-zero marginal cost. The commission platforms charge is no longer the cost of coordination. It is economic friction without corresponding value.

An SME (moving company, restaurant, hotel) defines their service offering through a structured service contract. Identity verified via EBSI-compatible decentralized identifiers.

Open source by design

CDS is not open source as a marketing strategy. It is open source because the problem demands it. A system designed to replace proprietary platforms cannot itself be proprietary. Trust requires transparency. Transparency requires open code.

All CDS components are published under OSI-approved licenses. The Service Contract Specification is an open standard, designed to be extended by communities and adopted across service domains. Anyone can fork, modify, deploy, and operate their own instance.

Sustainability comes from operational efficiency, not from lock-in. A low service fee (3–5%) funds development and operations — similar to how Red Hat sustains Linux, or how Mozilla sustains Firefox.
